Obituary of Errol William Schmeits

Errol William Schmeits passed away at home on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.Born on March 28, 1940, to Bill and Ellen Schmeits in Burwell, Nebraska and was raised on a farming ranch just outside of Erickson. He never shied from hard work and was physically active all his days. His early work was in retail sales and then he and Eleanor raised the four kiddos and ran a successful Amway Business out of their home for 17 years. After another short time in retail sales, they started their own lawn care business and were both owner and operator of Ridglea Hills Lawn Service for 25 years. He thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine on his face and working in the fresh air. Upon retiring he and Ellie began their ministry as clowns at Cook Children’s Hospital and transitioned into serving in other areas. He was a joyful part of the hospital team for almost 10 years, serving 4000 hours. He even received the Helping Hands Volunteer of the Year award.He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, his love of people, and his affection for good food and travel. His happy place was on a beach, toes in the sand, book in his hand and his bride by his side. He was a servant and active member of Holy Family Catholic Church for 40 years.He and his beloved recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. He faithfully started her mornings with a cup of coffee and a smile. They truly enjoyed each other’s life, work, and ministry together.He was best known as the dad and grandpa at every child/ grandchild sporting and momentous event that took place in their lives. From football, baseball, basketball, and soccer games to recitals and awards days. He wanted to be present for everything in his children and grandchildren’s lives. We can all hear his infamous “HAYOOO and “Get wheels Schmeits”. You knew your Papa was there cheering you on.His memory will be kept alive and cherished by his forever bride of 61 years, Eleanor; his 4 children, Cole (Lauren), Kevin (Becky), Kelly (KK) and Kim (Jason); and his 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. His brothers Dallas (deceased) Al, Jan, and Gene.The family wishes to thank Community Hospice of Texas for its thoughtful service and especially thank Anna and Adam for their tender care in his last days.A limb has fallen from the family tree, that says grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong!
