Obituary of Margaret Helen Farlow

Margaret Helen Farlow, lovingly known as Pegi, passed away on May 7, 2021 at the age of 88. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. Pegi was dearly loved by her family, and her tenacious spirit, witty sense of humor, and loving nature will be carried on by her family and friends in the form of joyful memories.Pegi was born on April 28, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to George and Margaret Farlow. She was the youngest of three children. Her father, a civil engineer, moved the family from Pittsburgh to Staten Island, New York in 1943 as he was called to assist with the designing of bridges connecting Staten Island and New Jersey. Along with her older sisters Sarah and Bette, Pegi spent her childhood growing up on Staten Island and attended New Dorp High School. Pegi graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1956 from Wagner College on Staten Island. During her time at Wagner, Pegi was a member and Vice President of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.Upon graduation, Pegi worked in New York City as an Assistant to the President for the Council on Religion and International Affairs. In 1966, Pegi accepted a role with N. Marshall Seeburg & Sons, Inc. She worked in the New York office as an Operations Manager. Pegi excelled in this role and was ultimately asked to move to Chicago to support the company’s main headquarters. Over the course of her 11 years with the company, Pegi led everything from product development and marketing to serving as the Director of Shareholder Relations.In a letter of recommendation written by Noel Seeburg, Jr. (President of N. Marshall Seeburg & Sons), Noel described Pegi’s tenure with the company as being “marked with integrity, ability, and judgment.” He went on to describe that Pegi “set herself no hours and was available and cheerful through many periods of crises which required seven-day weeks and long hours past five o’clock, without complaint. Her character and personal habits [were] beyond reproach.”In 1977, Pegi helped Dillon, Read & Co., an investment bank based in New York City, open its Chicago office. She led all corporate operations and served as a Corporate Financial Associate, which included managing the operations, accounting, securities transactions, and corporate finance projects. Pegi continued down this road in financial services operations and management for the duration of her career. She would spend the majority of this time at First Options of Chicago as the Assistant to the Vice President before retiring in the early 2000’s. Pegi was a sharp, hardworking, and accomplished professional.A few years after retiring, Pegi moved to Fort Worth, Texas to be close to her family. She was a longtime member of the Jane Austen Society, a non-profit dedicated to the appreciation of Jane Austen and her writing. Pegi had a great appreciation for the arts and was a member of the Kimbell Art Museum. Along with her sister Bette, Pegi enjoyed nothing more than a Friday afternoon spent exploring the Kimbell’s newest exhibit.Pegi was preceded in death by her sister, Sarah Holzka. She is survived by her sister, Bette Robinson and brother-in law, Eddie Robinson; nephews and nieces Marc Robinson, Paul Robinson (and his wife, Mary), Drew Robinson (and his wife, Laura), Martha Orbach (and her husband, Tony), and Jane Holzka (and her husband, Mark Winther); and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
