Obituary of Conrad Schmid

Conrad passed away peacefully with his family near on Saturday, April 21, 2018.Conrad was born November 12, 1944 in Bisbee, AZ to Mary and Robert Schmid. They moved to Lamesa, TX in 1945 where Conrad lived until he was 8 years old. Having moved to Lubbock, TX in 1952, Conrad graduated from Monterey High School in 1963 and entered Texas Tech University. While at Texas Tech, Conrad joined Phi Delta Theta Fraternity where he forged exceptional friendships that were a constant source of support and joy throughout his life. Conrad’s life was defined by his West Texas roots and from these roots came values, work ethic and relationships, many over 50 years in length. From this core he developed and delivered volumes of love and guidance to his very extensive group of family and friends.Conrad graduated from Texas Tech with a BBA in 1968 and began his banking career which carried him to Austin, Lubbock and finally to Fort Worth, TX where in 1976 he started a securities business. He joined Merrill Lynch in 1991 and remained there for 27 years. In 1987 Conrad married his wife, Tita.Conrad was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry, the associate vestry, as an usher, and was a 6 year student of Bible Study Fellowship. His love of his Lord, family, friends, golf, and Texas Tech were the heart of Conrad’s life.Tita and family want to thank Dr. Craig Dearden, lifelong best friend Keller Smith, and all of the friends who loved, supported, and prayed for Conrad and Tita.Conrad is survived by his wife, Tita Farrell Schmid, his sons Robert Preston Schmid and his wife Beth, James Conrad Schmid II and his wife Rachel, his daughter Gibbs Miller and her husband John, and his daughter-in-law Bianca Colgin Watson and her husband Bo. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sarah Beth, Preston, Pierce, Jack, Zettie, Arden, Peter, Ellis and Lincoln. Conrad is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert, and his son Clinton James Colgin.I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)
