Obituary of Clifford Edwin Greene
Clifford Greene, 95, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, March 29, 2018.Cliff was born to Clifford Maxwell and Margaret (McDougall) Greene on January 31, 1923 in San Francisco, CA. Cliff enlisted in the US Army in October 1942, serving as armored radio technician for the 6th Cavalry of George Patton’s 3rd Army, where he saw battle on the beaches of Normandy and through the Ardennes, served for a time as General Patton’s radioman, and was awarded a Bronze Star. Following his honorable discharge in October 1945, Corporal Greene moved to the South Pacific, spending five years in various roles and locales, eventually joining the Civil Aeronautics Administration as a radio technician. He met his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Ann Connelly (1926-2015) in Honolulu, HI. They were joined in Holy Matrimony at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Honolulu on August 2, 1952 and went on to raise five children together in Fort Worth, where they became lifelong members of St. Rita Parish.Over the course of Clifford’s extended career in radio and telephone engineering, he gained international prominence, and is named inventor on more than a dozen U.S. patents for telecommunications carrier hardware. In retirement, he was ordained in the first Lay Deaconate class in the Fort Worth Diocese, wrote Cowboy poetry, became an accomplished bronze sculptor, worked briefly for Wells Fargo – continuing a 5-generation family legacy of service to the historic firm, and traveled nationally and internationally with his bride.Cliff is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lorraine, and his wife, Phyllis.Survivors: His children, Kay (Steve) Folck of Platte City, MO, Vai Greene of Bedford, Mike Greene of Fulton, TX, Mark (Kelly) Greene of Fort Worth, and Julie Greene of Euless; grandchildren, Elizabeth Greene of Bedford, Celeste Greene of Fort Worth, Jarrod Greene of Denton, and Page Folck of Platte City, Mo; great grandchildren, Haley and Brody Hathcock of Bedford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
