Obituary of Joanne Williams Wood

Joanne W. Wood passed away at home on December 25, 2019Joanne was born in Millen, GA on September 2, 1939 to Carrol Vasti Williams and Sallie Mae James Williams. During WWII, the family moved to Savannah where her father worked at the Savannah shipyards which built liberty ships for the war effort.In 1958 Joanne met Air Force Lt. James E. Wood and they were married on April 4, 1959. When Jim retired from the Air Force in 1976, the couple and their two children, James Neal and Janet Rae, moved to Arlington, TX. She had always dreamed of becoming a Registered Nurse, so once the family was settled in Arlington, she was able to fulfill her goal by obtaining a BS in Nursing from Texas Christian University.She enjoyed a career as a labor and delivery nurse at several hospitals in the DFW area. When Jim retired from his second career, Joanne retired from nursing so they could enjoy traveling.Joanne was preceded in death by their son, James Neal Wood.She is survived by her husband of 60 years, and their daughter, Janet Rae Wood of York, England and Neal’s three daughters, Kylie, Megan and Jordan of Houston, Texas.
