Obituary of Warren J. Brignac

Warren Joseph Brignac died peacefully on Monday, April 19, 2021, at the age of 98. He was born in 1923 in French Settlement, Louisiana, and graduated from French Settlement High School. Warren then earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from LSU . In 1943, his advanced ROTC class was sworn into the Army. Following Officer Training School at Ft. Benning, Warren was commissioned in the Army as a Second Lieutenant, Infantry. He was deployed to England in 1943, serving in Patton’s Third Army as a replacement officer (charged with re-staffing personnel on their way to front line units). During his service in World War II, Warren was promoted to Captain and took part in five of six major campaigns in France, Luxembourg, and Germany, remaining with this unit until being honorably relieved of active duty.In 1951, following his return to the US, Warren obtained a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from LSU , where he taught full time until June 1954. During this time he married Carmen Couvillon, his wife of over 50 years.Warren then moved to Ft. Worth to work for General Dynamics in the Structural Dynamics Group. There, he was responsible for structural and dynamic analysis for aircraft including the B-58, F-111, and F-16. His final assignment was responsibility for the structural dynamic clearances for the world wide versions of the F-16 including wind tunnel, ground testing, and flight verification for F-16s with multiple payloads.Warren retired in 1990 after thirty six years at General Dynamics. He and Carmen traveled all over the world with friends and particularly enjoyed Elder Hostel programs. After Carmen’s death he focused on golf and volunteering for Meals On Wheels and St. Andrew Catholic Church Food Pantry.Warren his survived by his son, Raymond Brignac and wife, Camille, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; his daughter, Donna Borrett and husband, Walter, of Katy, Texas; and his son, Gary Brignac and wife, Jan, of Fort Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.Warren inspired many people with his gracious words and gentle demeanor. He was a devout Catholic who showed honor and integrity in his career and daily life. We will miss him, remembering him as a kind man who cared deeply for his family.
