Obituary of Eddie Fred Currie
E. Fred Currie, 83, died August 2, 2017 from complications related to congestive heart failure.A native of Lubbock, Mr. Currie was a Finance major at Texas Tech University and a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He graduated in 1955 with a BA in Business Administration.From 1956 to 1960 he served as a supply officer aboard the heavy cruiser USS Albany. Upon leaving the Navy, Fred embarked on a career in finance. During his career, he sat on the board of many public and private institutions, helped raise money for numerous businesses and non-profit organizations and managed the finances of countless individuals. He retired 1999 as a Senior Vice President.In his youth he was an accomplished golfer who played in numerous pro-am tournaments and was a lifelong member of Colonial Country Club. In later years, his greatest passion was thoroughbred racing. He owned numerous race horses during his lifetime, was a member of the Texas Racing Commission and was proud of the role he played in bringing parimutuel racing to Texas.Dear God, Fred has finished the work you have given him to do. Please receive him with open arms.Mr. Currie was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Genevieve Currie.Survivors: His wife, Angela Currie; and his stepson, Karl Wallace.
