Obituary of Jack Weldon Ferrill

Jack Weldon Ferrill went home to the Lord on March 22, 2018 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 88.Jack was born on September 3, 1929 near Sidney, Comanche County, Texas. He graduated from Comanche High School. He met his long-time sweetheart, Wanda Nell Reaves, in 1948 during his first week as a student at the University of Texas in Austin. He graduated from UT with a bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1950 and married Wanda in 1951.Jack served 2 years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge as a 1st Lieutenant in 1953.Jack and Wanda then moved to Fort Worth where he took a job at the First National Bank of Fort Worth. He retired in 1984 as the Senior Vice President of Commercial Loans.Jack was active in the Fort Worth community serving on the boards of a variety of civic organizations. Among the closest to his heart were the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (where he is still listed as an Honorary Vice President), the United Way, the Moncrief Radiation Center, the Fort Worth Chapter of the Cancer Society, and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. As Chairman of the Board of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History he spearheaded the fund raising efforts to fund the addition of the Omni Theater which opened in 1983.In addition to his career and civic activities, Jack remained tightly connected to his roots in rural Texas, taking over the operations of the Ferrill Ranch in Comanche County after the death of his father in 1969. To improve his ranching skills, he enrolled in TCU’s Ranch Management Program, taking night classes (after banking hours).Country music was a passion for Jack. He learned to play the guitar as a boy and was an avid fan of the Grand Ole Opry and a variety of country performers. His picking and singing were frequently the highlight of gatherings for both friends and family.More important than his career, his civic activities, his ranch, and his personal interests, was his devotion to his family and his God. He was a lifelong member of the Sidney Church of Christ, which was founded by his great grandfather. Jack Ferrill was a banker who earned the trust of clients, a citizen who donated his time and talent to his community, and also an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by many.Jack was preceded in death by his parents, O.A. and Hettie L. Ferrill and grandson Brian Allen Marshal Burke.He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Wanda Nell Reaves Ferrill; three children, Diana K. (Ferrill) and husband, Mark Evatt, Beverly A. (Ferrill) and husband, William Finley, and Donald A. Ferrill and wife, T. Denise; nine grandchildren, Becky and husband, Alan Olson, Jaclyn, R. and husband, Cody Yarborough, Amanda and husband, Nate McCoy, Tara Glenn, Ryan Ferrill, Heather Ann (Riese) and husband, Joerdan Kennedy, Lindsay Evatt, Kevin Evatt, and Morgan Evatt; great-grandchildren, Travis Loper, Madison Reed, Allison Reed, Kylie Yarborough, Bella Olson, Gemma Yarborough, Jaxon Evatt, Mitchell Olson, Carter McCoy, Austin Olson, Bentley McCoy, Mackenzie Evatt, Crew Yarborough, Cash Kennedy, Bailey McCoy, Canyon Kennedy, Piper Evatt, and Hayden McCoy.
