Obituary of Carmen Alice Brooks

Carmen Alice Brooks, 81, was born June 20, 1938 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and died January 16, 2020 in Fort Worth. She moved to Brooklyn, New York in middle school and graduated high school from Bay Ridge High School.Alice worked on Wallstreet for 25 years before moving to Fort Worth in 1976 with her husband, Tom Brooks, and daughter, Debbie. She worked 15 years at First National Bank of Fort Worth and followed that with another 20 years as a marketing assistant at Mrs. Baird’s. She was a member of Desk & Derrick, the Red Hat Society, Professional Secretaries Association and The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and served in many ministries at her home parish St. Andrew Catholic Church, including Rite of Catholic Initiation (RCIA) team member, Co-chair of the funeral hospitality committee, an extraordinary minister of communion, and a regular scripture reader at Mass. With great joy, she ministered to the poor and marginalized in our society, proclaiming the love of Christ to all.Alice was always on the go and very active. She enjoyed dancing, reading, the fine arts, including the Fort Worth Symphony and Ballet, as well as plays at Casa Manana and artwork at the Kimball Art Museum, she loved professional baseball (the Dodgers were her favorite team) and exercising (she was a huge proponent of taking care of oneself). She had an electric personality that could fill an entire room and her laugh was tangible to those around her.She was very dedicated to her family and always made it her mission to provide the best for them. She loved her friends as if they were her own family, and was often referred to as “Nana Alice” by those she made her adoptive family. She was and is loved by many and will be greatly missed.She was preceded in death by her late husband, Thomas R. Brooks Jr., and her mother, Ermalinda CortesShe is survived by her daughter, Debbie Crowder and husband, David Crowder; grandson, Bryan Crowder, his wife, Erin Crowder; great grandchildren, Sarah Crowder and Jackson Crowder; and granddaughter, Rachel Wright, and her husband, Gus Wright.
