Obituary of Martin David Pavell
Martin David Pavell, 77, passed away on September 16, 2017 in his home in Fort Worth, Texas.Dave was born May 2, 1940 in the Bronx borough of New York City, New York, to Rose and Jack Pavell and spent his early childhood with sisters, Eileen and Paula, in the Bronx before moving to Phoenix, Arizona.Dave contracted the polio virus as a young child. He would later be named the poster child for the Arizona chapter of March of Dimes.Dave graduated from West Phoenix High School in 1958 and went on to major in Mass Communications with a focus on Broadcasting and Advertising at Arizona State University, graduating in 1962. Dave went on to have a long career in radio working as a disk jockey, broadcaster and in management for stations in Casa Grande, AZ, Blythe, CA, Galveston, TX, and Abilene TX. Known by his radio name “Dave Martin” he spent the majority of his career in Abilene, TX, most notably at KNIT, KWKC and KORQ. He retired from radio in 2004.Dave was an avid sports fan. From coaching little league athletics, to broadcasting high school games for Abilene high schools and college games for McMurry University, Hardin-Simmons, and Abilene Christian University, he was always involved whether in the dugout or in the booth. He loved cheering on his Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and TCU Horned Frogs.Papa (or “Papa Wheels” as he was fondly referred to by his grandchildren) was an adoring and proud grandfather. It was a holiday tradition that Papa would write and recite poems for the family.He is preceded in death by mother, Rose Levine Pavell, father and step-mother, Jack and Margie Pavell, and sister, Eileen Liss.He is survived by twin sister, Paula Leff of Maryland, mother of his children, Loretta Pavell, son, Mike Pavell and daughter-in-law, Andrea Pavell, son, Jeff Pavell and daughter-in-law, Lauren Pavell, granddaughters, Whitney and Delaney Pavell, grandson, Hudson Pavell, and granddaughter, Sawyer Pavell.
