Obituary of Z. T. Armstrong
On Sunday night, August 18, 2019, Z T Armstrong, loving husband, father and grandfather, went to be with his Heavenly Father at the age of 81.Z T was born in Fruitland, TX on June 6, 1938, to Theodore and Fannie Armstrong. Z T went to school in Munday, Texas and was a proud Munday Mogul. In 1955, he became a naval recruit and enjoyed 13 years in the Navy. He was stationed at various ports where he was assigned ship tours to many parts of the world. He worked on flight decks with aircraft taking off and landing. He was selected as Sailor of the Month for March, 1966. His Letter of Merit commended him for his leadership ability and professional knowledge demonstrated as a result of replacing a wing panel in record time. He spent time in helicopters bringing soldiers out of Vietnam. At times, he drove naval ambulances to transport medical patients.When he left the Navy in 1968, he came to Fort Worth, Texas and took a job with Gause-Ware Funeral Home in Haltom City, Texas. He met his wife, Jolene, in Haltom City through mutual friends. Jolene was a widow with four children, ages nine through thirteen. Jolene and Z T were married on April 5, 1969. He worked out of Union Millwright Local #1421 for approximately 30 years.The family would like to thank all of the medical staff involved in his care, especially the doctors and nurses at Texas Oncology, Sandeep S. Gill, D.O. and his medical team; Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital HEB; and Cardiologist, Rejesh B. Vrushab, M. D. A special thank you to Community Hospice for their compassion, care and dedication to their patient.He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Hoyt (Tud) Armstrong and Fannie Elizabeth Waldroup Armstrong, brothers, Dalton J. Armstrong and James Alton Armstrong, sisters, Evelyn Louise Armstrong Tuggle, Velma Maxine Armstrong Bowley, Helen Loretta Armstrong Lain, Peggy Imogene Armstrong Albus, Doris Kay Armstrong Latham, Marilyn Sue Armstrong Kelly, and Debra Diane Armstrong Carruth.He is survived by his wife, Jolene Darnall Pillow Armstrong; sister, Wanda Lorene (Mickey) Armstrong Hansard; sons, Douglas Ray Pillow and David Garland Pillow; daughters, Joni Diane Pillow Norton and husband, Lee, and Dana Sue Pillow McGee and husband, David; grandsons, Shawn Michael Lain and wife, Brittany, Nicholas Steven Lang and wife, Abigail, Christian Chandler Pillow and Joshua Gideon Pillow; granddaughter, Amanda Lee Norton Cass Brown; great-grandsons, Evan Clement Lang, Matthew Steven Lang, Owen Porter Cass and Benjamin Thomas Lang; and numerous nephews and nieces.
