Obituary of Edwin Hollis Ferree
Edwin Hollis Ferree was born October 17, 1927 in Angleton, Texas, the son of Edwin Bennett Ferree and Mabel Etta Huddleston Ferree. He served in the U.S. Air Force in 1946 and 1947. Following his military service, he attended The University of Texas in Austin where he fell in love with Henrietta Lee Blum of Austin and they married on September 2, 1948. He passed away September 1st, one day before what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.In 1950 he graduated from the University of Texas and worked in the transportation business in south Texas, In 1954 he began his career with Freeport Sulfur Company in Port Sulfur, Louisiana. During his 35 years with the company he lived and worked in; New York City, New Orleans, Manila, Cairo, and Irian Jaya, Indonesia. Ed and Henrietta considered their life together an adventure and wherever they lived they made it home.While working in New York City, Ed and the family lived in Darien Connecticut where he served on the vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He and Henrietta also served on the boards of Young Life and Faith Alive during their time in Darien.When they retired to Fort Worth, Ed and Henrietta became active members of All Saints’ Episcopal Church. Ed served on the vestry, including three years as Senior Warden and chairman of the Search and Discernment Committees.Ed had a gift for writing and poetry which he shared at every family occasion. He was known for his sharp mind, quick wit, and clever puns. He was curious and interested in many fields especially researching the genealogy of his family.Ed will be remembered most as kind, loving and generous and was beloved by all who had the good fortune to cross his path. He had a servant’s heart and spent his life serving God, his family and friends. He was thoughtful, wise and a wonderful listener. A day never went by that he didn’t express his love for his family, thankfulness for his life and the many blessings he was given.His family would especially like to thank the following people for their compassion and care this past year; Compassus Hospice, Dr. John Burk and Dr. Alan Davenport.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Henrietta Lee Ferree, sister, Lois Inez Wheeless and her husband, Rev. James T. Wheeless.Survivors: Ed is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Ferree Kent and her husband, Dr. Allen Sanders Kent of Fort Worth, Sandra Lee Kirkpatrick and her husband, Michael Joseph Kirkpatrick of Highland Village; grandchildren, Christopher Lee Kent and wife, Vaishali Trivedi Kent, Michael Sanders Kent and wife, Kate Marie Kent, Hollis Ferree Webb and husband, Joseph William Webb, Joshua Hollis Berry and Kiel Elliott Kirkpatrick; great-grandchildren, Sanders Tatro Kent, Charlotte Marie Kent, August Arjun Kent and Henry Hasit Kent; sister, Juanita Louise Ray of Kenner, Louisiana; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
