Obituary of Grace Anne Riggs Miller

Grace Anne Riggs Miller, 84, a devoted wife, loving mother, Nana and a friend to everyone, passed away peacefully at The Grandview on Chisholm Trail after a long battle with Alzheimer’s (Dementia).Grace was born in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Charles Riggs and Regina Scanlon Riggs. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Jean Riggs Owings, Charles Riggs Jr. and Jackie Riggs Henning, All from Baltimore.Grace attended St. Joseph Monastery grade school and graduated with honors from Mother Seaton High School in 1955. She loved recalling having to ride the trolley and bus daily to and from her home in Catonville to Seaton in all kinds of weather and playing on Seaton’s basketball team.After graduating from high school, Grace worked for WBAB radio and Westinghouse until 1959 when she decided to temporarily move to Houston with some of her girlfriends. Soon afterwards, she met her future husband, Jack, who lived below her apartment while he was taking out his garbage. He asked her if she wanted to go horseback riding and the rest is history. They married later that year and were married for 62 years.In 1963, her family moved to Corpus Christi. Two years later they moved to Baltimore. In 1971, their prayers were answered and they got their wish to move back to Texas and settled in Fort Worth. Grace made many friends over the years through her kindness, charm and smile. She seemed to know everyone in town from Wester Ave., St. Bartholomew, St. Andrew Catholic Church and School Southwest High School, Trinity Valley School, Fox Hollow Street and TCU. She especially loved her time working at the TCU Comptroller’s Office for 10 years where she worked with students and staff. She became close friends with many of them.Even as Alzheimer’s took over her life, it could never steal her ability to smile, be kind and make new friends including the staff, caretakers and patients at the Grandview where she resided and the volunteers for Holy Savior Hospice who took care of her during the last few weeks of her life. Most of all, Grace was about her family. She raised five children and all along laughed, whistled, sang, danced and left memories that they and their many friends will always cherish.Survivors: Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, John A. (Jack) Miller; children, John A. Miller II, Kathleen Powell (Rocky), Thomas C. Miller, Kevin A. Miller (Gina), and Chris Miller (Autumn); grandchildren, Riggs, Griffin And Dillon Powell, Jacob, Ruby, Brady and Juliette Miller, and Rainey, Eve and Hudson Miller; sister, Geraldine Riggs Okeeffe (David), and many cousins, nieces and nephews.“Do not grieve or look askance. I’ve sung my song, I’ve danced my dance.”
