I was a fellow Boy Scout in Troop 97 at St. Andrews in the early to mid-60’s with Tommy. We all called him Yommy, because that’s what his classmates at St. Andrews called him. I believe it was because one of his younger siblings called him that when she or he couldn’t pronounce “T”. It was a special time for me being the only Protestant in the Troop. I remember Tommy, Mike and Pat Gallagher and all the rest of the Alter Boys taking turns helping me follow that Latin Mass in the Missal on Scout Sundays, at Retreat Weekends, etc. Many came to my Methodist evening service to see me receive my God and Country Award.
Tommy was always the best friend and fellow Scout to all of us. He was everyone’s favorite.
I was heartsick to learn of his sudden passing and grieved at losing touch since childhood. I was uplifted to read and see what a full and blessed life he lived and what a difference he made to so many people. My joy is knowing with absolute Certainty that he is with Our Lord, Savior, and The Holy Spirit now and forever.
Most Respectfully,
Richard “Brett” Ray, San Antonio, Texas

My deepest condolences to the Klueser family. Tommy always talked about you boys and what you were up to. I remember watching you when you were little. When I retired your dad always told me he was going to join me some day. His life was short but well lived. I followed him on facebook. He was a humble and giving person. Maryann and Tom were a beautiful loving couple. RIP Tommy.

The first time I met Tom, he pulled up next to me and my riding group on an old blue Trek in the middle of nowhere and started a friendly conversation. We chatted for a few miles until we came to a fork and he went left and my group went right. I'd see him later, on random group rides, and he would enthusiastically greet me, remembering the small details we had discussed on that first meeting - which really struck me. (He did also mention the tuition at Texas Tech when he attended - it made me smile to see that made his obituary). Grateful to have met such a kind soul.
I hope there's some wonderful cycling trails for you to conquer yet, friend.

I knew Tom at Texas Tech. We were both KAs and had a few reunions after Tech. In college, we discovered we were both from Ft. Worth and both loved water skiing. So in a summer or two in the late 60s Tom and I spent a lot of time skiing behind my dad’s boat on Eagle Mountain Lake. Tommy had trick skis and taught me how to use them. Trick skis are short, curved skis with no rudder so you can ski sideways or backwards. One of Tom’s tricks was to wrap the ski rope around his waist by turning backward. Then from way outside the wake, he would race backwards toward the wake using the wake as a ramp. While in the air the rope would unwrap and he would spin 180 degrees and land on the other wake…sometimes safely.
Tom taught me how to come up out of the water going backwards and then ski sideways. One trick we did together was we’d ski tandem and I’d hold my rope low and he would use the wake to jump over my rope. What could possibly go wrong!?
Tom’s best trick, I was too scared (wisely) to try. Somehow, he could ski standing on his head! I don’t recall how he did this but it was amazing. We had great fun and somehow didn’t kill ourselves.
Tom was an active photographer at Tech. He took dozens of photos of our lives as students and fraternity brothers. We all cherish these photos to this day. As Tom’s eulogy points out, he lived every day to the fullest. I’ll miss you, Tom.

Your father was a familiar face that I often saw on training bike rides from my house in Benbrook. When I became the Tarrant County Alliance President, I knew he would be the perfect person to ask to help with our community health project, Hard Hats for Little Heads. My board and I learned about his passing at our board meeting on Monday. He never missed a meeting. I will pray for your family in this time of sadness.
Respectfully,
Christel Chase

I was blessed to share many miles and many conversations with Tom. I remember one instance when I got a flat and the group didn’t realize and kept going, he was one of the two who turned back to find me and road extra miles that day as we caught back up with the group. He was always smiling and always laughing. Always had a story and always asked about you. Our routes are full of his memories and we will think about him often.

To the Kleuser Family,
I am so saddened by the loss of your Tommy. He was a year younger than me at Texas Tech University and whenever I saw him, he always had a big smile on his face, which always brightened my day. I don't know how his tuition was only $13/semester as mine was $75/semester. Maybe that was because he was such a special person. Over the past four years we had several opportunities to speak over the phone and catch up on families. He loved talking about his dearly departed Mary Ann and his family. He was such a good man. I went back pretty far with the Kleuser family as I was friends with Murphy and his father, repaired my Knee in 1964 following a serious knee injury suffered in a football game at Nolan. The world will miss Tommy, but his legacy will live on in those people fortunate enough to have crossed his path in life. To say he did well in life is to minimize his life. Tommy did GOOD in life. I am unable to attend his services, but he will be in my prayers always.

Tom was a very special human being. I didn't know him well at Nolan. I came to know him and appreciate him though the Class of '68 reunions. He bugged me and bugged me to attend the 40th - my first - and I've never regretted it. When he listened to you, he really listened. When he asked how you were doing, he was genuinely interested in knowing. I followed his marathons and his biking adventures on Facebook. I remember his post last August where he rode 72 miles on his 72nd birthday. It's a shock to have him gone, but a bigger blessing to have known him. Peter Gould

We attended St Andrew’s together since kindergarten, here’s our 8th grade graduation picture that Tommy sent me just a few weeks ago. After reading the beautifully written story of his life, I stand in amazement and frankly, I’m worn out! Tommy Kleuser was the epitome of a “man in full”. What a model of a man, who tirelessly did all the right things, for the very reason God put us on this earth. When I think about Tommy, I picture him as an altar boy, he was always assisting in daily mass. I don’t know, maybe that prepared him for his life of service to others. But, what I do know—there wasn’t a nicer family than the Kleuser’s!
Tommy, you blessed us in so many ways.
RIP,
Kathy O’Byrne Bradham

We Pop's are so sad that we will not hear Tom's jokes, see his grin or smile, nor debate him on various topics or have any more adventures here on earth with Tom. But we share a few photos from California, England, Ireland, and Italy so we all can remember Tom and his zeal for life. "There is much good in the world-be certain that you live your life so that you contribute to that good." That was on his sweet wife's memorial card and suits Tom to a tea. We were blessed to have Tom in our lives.
