Obituary of Hector O. Yanes
Fort Worth, Texas - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hector Yanes. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Hector was born in La Serena, Chile and grew up in Viña del Mar. He studied medicine at the University of Chile and, after serving as a physician in the Chilean military, he came to the United States to further his training in general surgery and cardiovascular surgery. In 1972 he came to Fort Worth and established his cardiovascular surgical practice. After his retirement from his surgical practice he went on to study a new career in Medical Management and worked for Baylor All Saints Hospital as VP of Medical Affairs until his retirement.
Hector embraced life with gusto. He had a passion for art and art history, volunteering as a docent at the Kimbell Art Museum where he shared his love of art and the architecture of the museum. His genuine curiosity and inquiring mind meant that there was never a dull moment in his company. He loved music and played the guitar and accordion. He was a gifted joke and story-teller, especially when sharing a great glass of wine with friends. He also enjoyed playing chess and travelling the world.
Hector is survived by his wife Karen; his son Andres Yanes and his wife Sudha Selvarajan; his son Sergio Yanes and his wife Maria Jose Mora; his granddaughters Sonia, Rafaella, and Amelia; and his sister Lucia Ximena Yanes. His absence will leave a great void in our lives.
