Obituary of George Thomas Korda
George Thomas Korda
September 21, 1949 ~ December 8, 2023
Born in 1949 in Brno, Czechoslovakia (now The Czech Republic), George was the son of Ervin & Jarmila Korda. His father was a Czech patriot and veteran of WW2 who was imprisoned for “political crimes” during the communist regime. In 1968, after the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia, George immigrated to the USA. He arrived in New York City with $100 to his name and little knowledge of the English language. Despite this, he realized the American Dream, becoming a successful entrepreneur, building a family with his wife Vicki and daughter Sasha, and building an extensive network of lifelong relationships. He was a fabulous chef. This passion led him to start his spice business, and he always said that he never worked a day in his life because he loved what he did.
George’s life is a testament to the human spirit and the unrelenting ability to overcome any hardship. Even after losing his beloved wife Vicki and his only daughter Sasha, and overcoming cancer, he still managed to inspire and help his family and friends. He died peacefully and in the presence of those who loved him.
George is survived by his sister Eva, his brother-in-law Roland, Eva’s children David, Tammy and Michael, and their 12 children. From his late wife’s Vicki side, his brother-in-law Don, and Don’s children Megan, Mason & JR, his sister-in-law Jackie, and Jackie’s daughter Hali, Hali’s husband Ryan and their son Cohen, his uncle Peter, cousins Paul and Julian and their children Felix, Rufus, Milo, Lola, and Oscar. His best friend Dusan, business partner Eric, and many other extended family and friends whom he has cherished as his own family. Special mention goes to Cindy, the last love of his life, who brought George light and happiness in his last months.
George will be remembered and honored by all those he touched and loved. His was a life well lived.
A celebration of his life will take place in 2024. The location and date will be forthcoming.
