Bill was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on April 12, 1933 to Raymond and Freda Himelhaver Miller.  He grew up in the Indianapolis area and became a Texan in 1946 when his father was transferred to Fort Worth with the telephone company.  He graduated from Laneri  High School in 1951.  On September 28. 1957 Bill married the love of his life, Georgia Drozd.

Bill served in the US Naval reserves for 10 years.  His father and brother served on the  USS Wisconsin. He was employed by the First National Bank of Fort Worth for 37 years as auditor and real estate inspector.  In 1987 Bill was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.  Having a colostomy for 37 years, Bill never complained “why me Lord?” but rather became active in the Fort Worth Chapter of the United Ostomy Association and  on the National Board , visiting and encouraging other ostomates.

With his two sons Tony and David and daughter Cynthia, Bill became involved in scouting, earning the Bronze Pelican, St. George Award and Order of the Arrow.   By his example his two sons and two grandsons became Eagle Scouts, the highest award  in Scouting.

Bill loved the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight of Council 2813, Ceremonial Director and Faithful Navigator of the James Gallagher Assembly.

Recognition from the Knights of Columbus include numerous Knight of the Month awards, Knight of the Year and Family of the Year.

Upon his retirement, Bill and Georgia travelled in their RV for 20 years being members of the Texas Travelers Club. Their travels were all over the United States, British Columbia and parts of Canada.

Spending time in Colorado, Bill learned to carve canes and walking sticks from aspen trees.   With Georgia’s help, he designed and carved approximately 25 walking sticks and canes.

With grandparents who were immigrants, Bill became interested  in genealogy and has traced his ancestry back to the 1600’s with a great grandmother being related to Daniel Boone.

He loved woodcarving, travelling and fishing but most of all his wife of 67 years – his three children, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren – being affectionately called “paw-paw”.

We love you Bill and shall miss you greatly.  Thank you for being such a loving and caring person.
