Mary began her work career as a travel agent for Hoyt Travel Agency and took a few years off after marrying Bill.  She continued her work at Heritage Travel Agency, King Travel Agency, and Country Day Travel.

For over 40 years Mary managed the complicated and ordinary travel for a myriad of people with a calm professionalism accompanied with her wonderful distinctive laugh.  She arranged travel plans for her clients in the most complete and attentive way.  She was available at all hours and managed all sorts of crisis for her loyal customers.  Her own travels took her to almost every country in Europe, England, Nova Scotia, The Netherlands, Mexico, Japan and so many cities in the United States.

Mary met Bill Otto at a Catholic singles group meeting in May 1974.  She introduced herself to the group saying “ …and I don’t date”.  Bill’s immediate thought was, “Well, we’ll see about that!”.  They were married at St. Andrew Catholic Church on June 20, 1975.

Mary was an avid reader of mystery and history and religious books.  She loved shopping at Barnes and Noble as well as at The Secondhand Bookstore and then relied heavily on the U.S. mail to deliver the many books she ordered online. She was the proud “mother” of 1000’s of books.  She also was an avid watcher of game shows on Television.

Marybeth was a true and devoted friend. She was always available to offer sympathy and tea.   She had the calming way of fending off fears and offering hope and friendship.
