Obituary of Phyllis Spano Boudreaux
Phyllis Spano Boudreaux, 85, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 2nd, 2024 after an 8 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Phyllis, a native of Donaldsonville, Louisiana, was born on July 22, 1939, to John and Velma Spano. She graduated from Ascension Catholic High School and married her high school sweetheart, Gerard, in 1961. Gerard’s career as a college football coach initially took them to Tulane University in New Orleans, and later to TCU in Fort Worth. Phyllis loved sharing memories of traveling with her fellow coaches' wives and never gave up her love for football. After Gerard’s coaching career ended, they devoted many years to tailgating and traveling with friends to support the Horned Frogs.
As a devoted mother to three children; Johnny, Leslie, and Jeff, Phyllis basked in the excitement of their athletic and school endeavors. Amid managing a household and raising busy teenagers, Phyllis earned a business degree from Texas Wesleyan with a 4.0 GPA. This achievement led to an impressive 40-year career in real estate, as a multi-million dollar producer and retired from Virginia Cook at the age of 75. Known for her unique way of dealing with name recall challenges, Phyllis often gave her clients nicknames, affectionately referring to most of her customers, friends, and strangers as “Darlin’” – a practice she continued for the rest of her life.
Phyllis was a proud “Nana” to five grandchildren, and enjoyed countless special memories spending time with the family, celebrating holidays, and attending sporting events and activities. As an avid dog lover, she never turned away the multiple dogs that arrived at her doorstep over the years. Her big heart and sense of humor is something that will have a long lasting impact on all that knew her.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Gerard, and her parents John and Velma Spano. Phyllis is also survived by her son, Johnny Boudreaux and his wife, Debbie, of Fort Worth; daughter, Leslie Russell and her husband, Chris, of Flower Mound; son Jeff Boudreaux of Fort Worth; grandchildren John Philip and his wife Lauren, Brent and Nicholas Boudreaux, Carlie and Anna Russell; sister Sherri Bellina and her husband Greg of Donaldsonville, LA; and her nephews Jake and John Bellina.
Phyllis’ family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Colonial Gardens Memory Care for their kindness and compassion where she lived out her life and became her final home.
